Peter Falkai

Short Bio

In addition to holding one of the director positions at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, Peter Falkai heads the Institute's Research Hospital as Medical Director. He sees himself as a clinician scientist, and therefore promotes clinical studies that are based on project ideas from the basic sciences as well as studies on questions that arise during clinical practice.

Peter Falkai is a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina; in 2011 and between 2015 and 2023, he was Senator of the Neurosciences Section. He was also President of the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN) from 2011 to 2012 and is the site spokesperson for the BMBF-funded German Center for Mental Health. Since this year, he is the President of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry.
