Equality means equal opportunities for everyone

The Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry supports its employees irrespective of their gender, nationality, religion, disability, age, cultural background and sexual identity. When establishing equal opportunities, we place particular importance on promoting careers and the compatibility of work and family.

Against sexual harassment

The MPI stands for diversity, equal opportunities and the compatibility of career and family life. With the Max Planck Society’s Code of Conduct, the Institute strictly opposes any discrimination and adheres to the codes of conduct for the protection of its employees against sexual discrimination, harassment and violence.

Service for families

We cooperate with the service provider pme. They provide a portal that can help in finding caregivers and act as a point of contact for any questions regarding family and career compatibility. For example, the service can help in finding babysitters, au pairs and kindergarten spots. It can also assist in care-giving in “emergency” situations, when your children get sick for example, all the way to organizing holiday programmes. Furthermore, they can assist you when it comes to finding care options for elderly relatives.

Career promotion

The Minerva-FemmeNet is a network for female scientists from all research backgrounds and levels in the Max Planck Society. It aims to pass on the experience of established female scientists – including former members of the Institute – to junior female scientists through a mentoring program. More than 300 mentors from Germany, Great Britain, France, Spain, the USA and Japan are available on a voluntary basis to advise the almost 400 mentees on all matters of career planning and work-life balance. Mentoring is carried out predominantly in tandem teams.
